Applications of RF speed transducer preamps include turbine flow meters in low flow situations. These preamps are used in low speed, near zero velocity sensing applications that will not accept magnetic drag from the speed transducer. The principle advantage of using the RF speed transducer technology is its ability to detect a target through a substantial non-magnetic metal wall without exerting any magnetic dampening effect allowing turbine meter rotors to spin freely. This provides for coverage of a much wider frequency range as compared to other detection methods.

These preamps send a high frequency carrier signal to an RF transducer coil. The RF speed transducer coil forms an oscillator circuit driven by the high AM carrier frequency of the preamp. The RF preamp converts the modulated signal via a Schmitt trigger into stable digital signal, extending the signal distance and application range of the RF speed transducer. The carrier frequency of the transducer is modulated by the presence or absence of a target. The RF speed transducer is capable of detecting aluminum, 316 stainless steel as well as ferro-magnetic targets. Our (RF) amplifiers offer a wide frequency range from 0.3 Hz to 5 kHz processing speed and large air gaps up to .3" depending on the mass and material of the target.
